Bidhannagar Mela at Salt Lake City, Kolkata

Or, that’s what I felt yesterday, when my friends and I made a visit to a nearby mela, ripe with all the rides – the Well of death(the best way to translate ‘Maut Ka Kua’), the vertical giant wheel, the indomitable swingers(dont be a pervert, i am tking about a ride! lol!); the snakelady gimmick, the tantrik jadugar, the most rustic form of a casino, and Read the rest of this entry »

Back again…

with 2 comments

I am back again. Got lost in some work over the past weekend and didn’t have time for a post. Being back on the blog-o-sphere feels so good. And the reverse writer’s block that I described earlier has mostly vanished, and I am trying to rub off the remaining roughness. I made a visit to NID(National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad) this weekend, and the experience was simply amazing. They were people just out of this world, each immersed in their own world of creativity, so warming yet so far away; a place where creativity takes its birth. Some of our greatest designers are from this famed institute, an institute which is well appreciated by both the corporate world as well as the greatest thinkers and innovators of our times.

The first entry into NID shook me. Just infront of the main entrance, Read the rest of this entry »

Dasvidaniya and other films

with 7 comments

It’s probably the fifth time that I watched Dasvidaniya, and the film still managed to retain its charm and simplicity. Everytime I watch the film, it strikes the same chord again and again. Some films are never made to go old. And, it’s all because of one person – Vinay Pathak, managing to take care of each and every minute details, just the right expressions, the right twitching of the eyes, and the right voice modulations. But, I will, in this post, not do a movie review. I have some other issues to lay down.

Consider the following films:

  • Dasvidaniya
  • Munnabhai MBBS
  • Lage raho Munnabhai
  • Taare Zameen Par
  • 3 Idiots
  • Swadesh

What do all this films have Read the rest of this entry »

Far from the madding crowd…

leave a comment »

After some 16 years, we made a short trip away from the daily chores of  our household. A short trip indeed – 3 days only – but no doubt one of the most soothing and charming journeys ever. It was quite a trip with no proper planning at all – not knowing how to go where we should be heading next.
We started off from Kolkata on the 31st morning for Maithon – one of the most beautiful and calming place I had ever seen. Maithon, located on the banks of river Barakar, is the home of one of the most successful projects of India and  the Damodar Valley Corporation’s first successful one. The chilling cold splash of waves against the rocks, the shivery pinching of the cold winds against our faces and the beautiful scenery – it all made for a perfect way Read the rest of this entry »

My new Ipod

with one comment

Rain in the soul

Rain in the soul

I got my new Ipod today. Its revolutionary, its radical, and the most important of all -its different. Yes, it’s different from Apple’s. It’s my new spiritual undertaking. It’s “Inner Peace amongst Outer Dynamism”.

When the world is at a turmoil, everything is in a state of incessant brownian movement, Ipod comes to my rescue. It’s my way of enjoying sanity amongst global madness. The run for time, the run for money and the run for materials cravings–  all becomes secondary. It’s time for listening to inner thoughts, the inner voice needs an ear. The limping soul needs someone to lean on.  Listen!! Listen !! Can you hear it cry! Can you hear it begging for someone to lend it a sympathetic hearing!

At last the time has come. I go down into recluse, musing over all that has happenened. People I have offended, those that have offended me, from the very small to the most happening events. It’s time to reflect. Like standing at the edge of a pond during sunset. The purity of the glowing colours together with the shimmering reflection of the soul in the muddy waters strikes the chord of unshaken belief in your heart which says “I’m still here.”

The Faith Returns

“I’m still here.” I repeat it to myself. Once more. A subtle sense of support stirs me up. I am not alone. I am not in the dark. I am still living with my soul. And as I fall back on my bed and slowly fall into the eternal trance, I couldn’t but keep humming these words from Enigma’s ‘Return To Innocence’ :

That’s not the beginning of the end
That’s the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Love – Devotion
Feeling – Emotion
Love – Devotion
Feeling – Emotion
Don’t be afraid to be weak
Don’t be too proud to be strong
Just look into your heart my friend
That will be the return to yourself
The return to innocence
If you want, then start to laugh
If you must, then start to cry
Be yourself don’t hide
Just believe in destiny

The awakening

The Awakening

Don’t care what people say
Just follow your own way
Don’t give up and use the chance
To return to innocence

That’s not the beginning of the end
That’s the return to yourself
The return to innocence
Don’t care what people say
Follow just your own way Follow just your own way
Don’t give up, don’t give up
To return, to return to innocence.
If you want then laugh
If you must then cry
Be yourself don’t hide
Just believe in destiny.

— Its my return to Innocence.
